Haters in Jazz

I understand the atmosphere amongst musicians in New York is rotten,

Brandford Marsalis says that people come to see him wanting to hear him sounding bad.


What happened to musician exchanging ideas? I understand that in Chicago things a little better with everyone getitng gigs.
